Blocks of Colour and Time (Number 1) | Australian Landscape Painting

‘Blocks of Colour and Time’ (Number 1) explores the intersection between landscape, memory, and form. Inspired by the sandstone cliff faces of Cania Gorge (Monto), this work interprets the land not as a static backdrop, but as a living record—something that shifts with light, season, and personal experience.

The bold forms of the escarpment are echoed in blocks of colour, each one suggesting the passing of time: layers of sediment, changing shadows, the slow movement of the sun across stone. My painting process is intuitive and layered, mirroring the way the land itself builds and erodes over time. Through this work, I aim to capture not just how the land looks—but how it holds us, shapes us, and reminds us of its long, quiet presence.
